- - murcia.jpgThe Province of Murcia on the Mediterranean Sea is one of the 19 autonomies in Spain. Its neighbours are Andalucia, Castilla - La Mancha and Alicante. The capital of the autonomy is Murcia and other places of interest are Cartagena, Aguila, Totana, Mazarron and Lorca and the small seaside villages San Pedro del Pinatar and San Javier. The province has an area of 11 317m² with approximately 1,2 million inhabitants and it is one of the smallest provinces in the country. The province has a coast-line of more than 110 kilometres. In the Murcian province you can find extremities: Mountains born during the Ice Age with their moonscape, unsettled prairies and densely populated villages and cities and a green coast with its white sand beaches.

- - - cartagenamayor.jpgMurcia the capital is beautiful and full of history. One of the most important sights is the cathedral which has been constructed in several phases between the 14th and 18th century. The city of Cartagena offers you Byzantine and Middle Age relics.
In the Old Town, while admiring the Byzantine wall (Muralla bizantina) you can travel back in time until the 6th century and imagine yourself - - - cartagena.jpgin Cartagena of that time.If you are interested in the history of navigation do visit the Museo Nacional de Arqueología Submarina. On the ancient border between Andalucia and Murcia stands the Lorca fortress, which rises above the motorway E-15 / A-7. Lorca is famous for winning several battles with its skillful army. Being a frontier city Lorca became an important trading centre and the city even had its own stamp. In San Javier, one of the coast villages of the sea Mar Menor an international jazz festival is organized every year in July which brings a lot of tourists to the area.

Have a nice warm bath in the spas originally constructed by the Romans in Fortuna, located in the North of the Murcian Province where the pleasure of bathing in hot mountain springwater has been possible since the 19th century. The water containing a lot of minerals is conducted to the spa pools offering you a wide range of different relaxation possibilities. Worth mentioning also is the dining room of the Spa - identical to the dining room of the famous Titanic!

- - viinikoynnokset.jpgThe main source of livelihood in the Province of Murcia is the agriculture - there are plenty of fields and kitchen gardens producing vegetables to the other European countries. There are also plenty of vineyards in the area located in the southwestern part of the Province. The most famous vine cities are Jumilla and Yecla.
