Torrevieja, old salt-mining and fishing town
Torrevieja is an old salt-mining and fishing town on the coast of Alicante between two large salt lakes. During the last decade Torrevieja has grown from a little town to a city of 100 000 habitants.
In addition to its excellent beaches and shops and restaurants, Torrevieja offers many places of interest such as the church Iglesia Arciprestal de la Inmaculada Concepción (it was originally erected in 1789 and then reconstructed in 1844, using stones reclaimed from the original Torre Vieja, (Old Tower), the church Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Rosario (La Mata), constructed in 1896, Paseo Maritimo, where you can find many excellent restaurants, The Park of the Nations (Parque de las Naciones), the Sea and Salt Museum, the Submarine S61 Delfin and many more...
The World Health Organisation has considered Torrevieja to be one of the healthiest places in the world because of its location between two large salt lakes and Mediterranean Sea.
